you don’t have to be rich

IMG_0448   These Maurie & Eve jeans and Windsor Smith slides have featured before. But we should all be honest with ourselves here: do bloggers that post outfit photos weekly with brand new clothing have some magical endless wardrobe or income? I certainly don’t. I can’t afford a brand new addition to my wardrobe every week, just like most women my age. I blog to share my knowledge and style, learn, write, and to post things I like. Quality and passion matter most to me with style posts, not quantity. Innovation isn’t buying new stuff to shoot all the time, it’s working through adversity, being creative and styling the same pieces in unique ways. Speaking of unique personal style, I got told the other day over dinner that I looked like I was wearing pyjamas. It’s not something I haven’t heard before. I wear a lot of black, and it’s always slouchy and relaxed, no bra, you know what I’m talking about. My wardrobe is almost wholly made up of oversized tees. It’s fucking amazing. Like at the end of dinner and everyone’s complaining about wanting to unbutton their jeans, and you’re sitting there in stretch dropcrotch pants and you are SO FUCKING COMFORTABLE. Couldn’t recommend it more. Use the Olsen twins as inspiration – their ‘look, I love expensive labels but fuck off if I’m not going to be comfy’ vibes have inspired me for years. This outfit is slouchy, comfortable, and perfect for running around on those ‘I have a thousand things to do and no motivation to do any of them’ kind of days. The tee is soft cotton and I’ve had it for too many years to even remember where it’s from. Maurie & Eve’s ‘Word Jean’ is in my top 5 favourite pieces of clothing I own. I really need to photograph the back of them so you can properly see the dropcrotch detail, it’s fantastic. The Windsor Smith slides have barely come off of my feet since spring hit Adelaide. The sunglasses are my favourite newbies – a darling friend runs a incredible label called Supa Sundays. He gave me these wonderful ‘Maximillion’ sunnies, and I adore them. The leather-look caps on either side of the frames are just so sick. You can find them here. IMG_0453 IMG_0505 IMG_0413 IMG_0521 IMG_0430 IMG_0542

Styling notes

Jeans: Maurie & Eve
Jumper: Cotton On
Shoes: Tony Bianco
Bag: Sportsgirl
Rings: Lovisa

I finally finally finally got my hands on pair of Maurie & Eve’s ‘Word Jean’ in black. I’m in love with them. They’re baggy, but taper around the ankle. Dropcrotch with extremely low back pockets. Super low waist – the complete opposite of all my other jeans.

You can dress them up or down; my faithful Tony Bianco’s, black Sportsgirl leather-look tote and a huge chunky knit are my favourite go-to pairing when I have to look semi-polished. Which is amazing, because getting dressed up in winter normally sucks for girls because you’re absolutely fucking freezing. Not this moi, I wholeheartedly refuse to freeze myself half to death. And this outfit smokes any flimsy icicle-inducing cocktail dress out the water anyway. Did I mention how comfortable they are? It’s like a soft denim cloud is swathed around your butt. Keep your eyes out, my next personal style post will be dressing them down.

My winter has been completely made now the Maurie & Eve’s are in my life. Big ups to désordre boutique for getting these in my hands so fast, and with an adorable note 😍

winter uniform

This is what I’ve been wearing during the bitter winter we are having here in Adelaide. Literally every single day, like an army uniform. It’s fucking freezing outside; it does feel a little like walking into a war zone. My current job doesn’t really allow for really out-there fashion choices anyway – I wear jeans with boots or sneakers everyday. So before and after work, it’s all about thick rollneck and/or cable knit jumpers, draped leather jackets, dropcrotch jeans, and minimal accessories. I like to scare the customers with gothic dark lipstick sometimes though. And if I had a spare $450 to blow, I’d be buying those rimless CÉLINE beauties, instead of a shiny sunglass number off the rack at the servo when I’m buyin’ my Marlboro Golds.

fall down, get up and conquer the world

Recently in Adelaide the weather’s gotten cool… then hot again. Then cold, then boiling. This Melbourne-ish weather has inspired me so much, and turned me into a bit of a crazy person when it comes to getting dressed in the morning! I’m liking pretty prints and interesting textures all together, or completely simple, muted looks with clean lines and lovely tailoring. A lot of vintage pieces, mixed it with high street and local designers, as always. I’m taking a huge amount of inspiration from the ’90s, you may notice. Colours and prints have never been my thing, so this a massive turn in my fashion life. I’m really enjoying exploring this new world!

For this post, I chose eight different outfits that I thought really summed up my style this autumn: Here they are. There are more shots are in our Facebook Gallery.

Myself and the fantastic local photographer Phebe Rendulic mosied around Adelaide snapping in all different gorgeous locations. Apart from it being ridiculously hot, the shoot was amazing fun, Phebe is incredible to work with. Her other work is here, so take a look and support our incredible local creatives!

Feel free to comment below and let me know what you think! Would love to hear from some other bloggers about shooting style and style interpretation, especially! Cx
